AR[t] issue 4: Call for Contributions

The AR Lab is looking for contributions for the fourth issue of AR[t] - the leading magazine about Augmented Reality, art and technology! Contributions should be of artistic, educational or academic value. We encourage contributions from writers, scholars, students, researchers, teachers and hobbyists. The contributions may vary in length and style. Please have a look at previous issues of AR[t] in order to get an overview about the diversity of possibilities. If you would like to contribute, please take a look at our submission guidelines, listed below, information about the target audience and our mission statement.

The AR Lab is a joint effort between the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and Leiden University.

AR[t] Magazine Submission Guidelines:

  • A short article should have a maximum of 500 words, a full-length article should have a maximum of 1800 words;
  • Submit your paper in Word-format (.doc, .docx) or rtf-format (.rtf);
  • For references and citations, use the MLA Citation Style;
  • Images have to be included (minimum of 300 dpi). Include at least one image for a short article and two for a full article. Attach these images separately to your email. Inform us of all image-credits;
  • We reserve the right to decline articles.

Add a signed statement in which you confirm that,

1. The material is original;

2. You have obtained written permission for unrestricted use of any previously copyrighted material (e.g. images) included in the article;

3. You grant us all rights of reproduction, translation, distribution, derivation, reuse, and display of the work, in whole or in part, in all forms of media now or hereafter known, including all digital and electronic media.

Send the submission to before the deadline, 27 September 2013. Camera Ready deadline, 7 October 2013. We will let you know if we have accepted your contribution by 1 October 2013. If necessary, we will contact you to discuss details.

Topics of Interest

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to AR artworks, AR in (art) education, AR artists, AR and cultural heritage, AR technology,  perception and interaction in AR, tutorials, theory and media art.

Target audience

Anybody who wants to learn more about AR, will be able to find inspiring information in AR[t]; be they art and design students, students from technical backgrounds, engineers, developers, inventors, philosophers or people who just happened to hear about AR and got curious.

Mission statement

AR[t] is a magazine series for the emerging AR community in and outside the Netherlands. In AR[t], we share our interest in Augmented Reality (AR), discuss its applications in the arts and provide insight into the underlying technology. It is our belief that AR and its associated technologies are important to the field of new media. Artists experiment with the intersection of the physical and the virtual and probe the limits of our sensory perception in order to create new experiences.

Managers of cultural heritage are seeking new possibilities for worldwide access to their collections. Designers, developers, architects and urban planners are looking for new ways to better communicate their designs to clients. Designers of games and theme parks want to create immersive experiences that integrate both, the physical and the virtual world. Marketing specialists are working with new interactive forms of communication.

For all interested parties, AR can serve as a powerful tool to realise their visions. Media artists and designers who want to acquire an interesting position within the domain of new media are encouraged to learn more about AR. Our magazine series is intended to provide both theoretical knowledge about this fascinating technology, and we want to serve as a guide towards first practical experiences with AR. Our special focus lies on the wide range of contributions.
