The AR+RFID Lab has been invited to hold a christmas lecture at the Glasgow branch of the British Computer Society. Yolande Kolstee will present the lab's projects, and will bring a few of our Augmented Reality Books for a live demo.

The opening of our exhibition 'State of the AR' on Monday the 16th of November was a great success! Many people from the Dutch world of Augmented Reality came to see the works that were exhibited in the gallery of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK). Professor Pieter Jonker, AR Lab's Yolande Kolstee, Sabine Wildevuur, Joost Rekveld and Dorota Walentynowicz gave talks on the subjects of science, art, technology and machine vision. The exhibition was curated by Joachim Rotteveel. State of the AR is still open every day until November the 28th. The AR equipment is available every weekday from 16:00 until 18:00 and on Saturday from 11:00 until 14:00.

Research in Art and Design with Augmented Reality at the AR+RFID Lab. With the 'State of the AR' exhibition, the AR+RFID Lab of the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague (KABK) and the Bio-Robotics Lab of TU-Delft show the art projects and designs that have been developed over the past three years. This exceptional exhibition can be experienced from 16 November until 28 November in the Gallery of the KABK, the Academy in which the AR+RFID Lab is situated. The KABK's AR+RFID Lab specializes in researching the usability of new visualization techniques for art and design. A specialism that suits the KABK well. At this Academy, students are trained to be independent, self-conscious artists and designers who, driven by an experimental attitude, have an obstinate contribution to their discipline and society. The Lab collaborates closely with the Bio-Robotics Lab of the TU-Delft. 'State of the AR' consists of several components. The 'Augmented Exhibition' for example, sows how exhibitions could be set up in the future. At the 'Augmented Exhibition' abstract paintings serve as a visual code. These codes evoke an extra dimension to the exhibited piece. This component can only be viewed with an AR-headset. For the operation of the headset an expert will be present each day from 16.00 to 18.00. The AR+RFID Lab held a lecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design which was well received.
The lecture is part of a series covering responsive environments. The pursuits thus far have included purely digital as well as mixed digital/physical projects and courses. The lecture series ties in with this interest and presents speakers that pursue a variety of related, yet diverse types of work. Material based approaches, engineering, artistic approaches, environmental approaches – the series will host a total of 6 speakers this academic year, and intentionally brings a spectrum of speakers to the school that are outside the traditional boundary of the design profession.

From September 25, 2009 until January 10, 2010 a building designed by Tim Versteegh, a student from Artez, Arnhem Academy of Architecture and Urban Design, will be shown at the 4th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam.
The building has been animated and put in an Augmented Reality environment by the AR+RFID Lab. This AR production was made in co-operation with MINIbar.

This friday Jurjen Caarls will have his Ph.D. defense at the TU Delft on the subject of optical see-through Augmented Reality.
The headset he developed is currently being used by the AR+RFID Lab.

On July 11, the Lab presented a large Augmented Reality installation for the “Sweet Summer Night: Illusion” exhibition at the sculpture garden of the Kröller-Müller Museum.
For this event, the Lab created unique 3D content and developed innovative Augmented Reality equipment, such as walkers with screen-based AR systems mounted on them and a large rotating screen showing a 360 degree panorama of the sculpture garden.
The Lab collaborated in this project with students from different departments of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague: Ferenc Molnar, Mit Koevoets, Jing Foon Yu, Marcel Kerkmans and Alrik Stelling. The AR Lab team consisted of: Yolande Kolstee, Wim van Eck, Melissa Coleman en Pawel Pokutycki, supported by Martin Sjardijn and Joachim Rotteveel.

During the 11th edition of the GSDI World Conference in Rotterdam Geonovum presented the first Dutch Augmented Reality Atlas to celebrate the opening of the National GeoRegistry. The AR+RFID Lab developed the AR Atlas and made a small online application.

The KABK's AR+RFID Lab exhibited its Augmented Reality applications for cultural heritage at the Dutch conference for Human Computer Interaction and User Experience Design on 11 June 2009 in Leiden. The 3D-Popup Book and Reconstruction Lab were part of the exhibition Sgraffito in 3D at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen earlier this year for which the lab worked in collaboration with artist Joachim Rotteveel. A paper by Yolande Kolstee, manager of the AR+RFID Lab, written especially for this conference has been accepted for publication. This tutorial will introduce participants to artistic AR creations applied to entertainment and new media art. It will give an insight on the current digital art scene and then be given concrete examples of AR usage in various creative activities, including digital entertainment and new media art.

Her graduation installation was shown at the gallery of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague during the Graduation Exhibition of 2009.
