You are invited on Tuesday May 27, 2014 from 16.00-18.30 hrs at Royal Academy of Art, The Hague for the launch of AR[t] 5, Magazine for Augmented Reality, Art and Technology and the Farewell Party of the AR Lab. This will be the occasion to say goodbye to the AR Lab and its (former) partners.

Too bad: we only have room for 100 guests maximum so please RSVP! (Send an e-mail to: m.kniveton@kabk.nl).

The AR Lab started in 2006 as AR+RFID Lab, in a close collaboration with Delft, University of Technology. In 2010 we invited Media Technology of Leiden University to join our research group. AR Lab cooperated with the companies DPI, Fabrique and Cybermind.nl.

We were very happy to have done some beautiful projects with Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Van Gogh Museum, Catharijne Convent, Escher in the Palace, and the Airborne Museum and many other small or big partners in the cultural domain. Regie-orgaan SIA has supported the AR Lab for Practice Based Research via their Raak-programmes.

In the Online Magazine of SIA, Foundation Innovation Alliance (SIA - Stichting Innovatie Alliantie)  the funding organization of research in professional universities (hogescholen), a project is described concerning the Smart Replica Project of Studio Maaike Roozenburg, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, TU-Delft  and the AR Lab of the KABK. One can read the article from page 20 onwards. The article is in Dutch. Also the image on the cover of the Magazine is from the Smart Replica project.

Het Nieuwe Instituut and The Netherlands Study Centre for Technology Trends (STT) are organizing the joint Symposium Art and Innovation: The Future of Interdisciplinarity on 19 March in Rotterdam. For STT, the symposium marks the end of a foresight study in which new relations between art, science and technology were explored. Het Nieuwe Instituut will adopt the findings of these explorations, and will apply them in the development of their practice-based researches. Yolande Kolstee will speak about the future of Technology and Art.

The annual seminar Mens voor de Lens organised by the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences’ Research Department Digital Life is scheduled for Thursday 20 February 2014 from 13.30 hrs. Several lectures will be given alongside live demo’s; the AR Lab will present some of its projects. While video monitoring systems are the main topic of discussion, special emphasis is put on intelligent camera’s in consumer products such as smartphones, AR headsets like Google Glass and cars.
